Key Industries

Our Foundation

The most basic things in life can be a challenge for those living with a disability and it has been Key Industries mandate for over three and a half decades to make those basic things seem less challenging to our clients.

Key Industries currently provides services to well over 135 individuals and their families. The client base has increased 375% since 2000. We strive to increase independence, education, self esteem, social integration, social networks, personal supports and healthy living enabling individuals to reach their full potential and be contributing members of their community.

We have certainly come a long way in society's understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities, striving to open doors that were previously closed and to eliminate the prejudice and intolerance that have so often kept these individuals beyond the bounds of the mainstream. For those with a disability, however, many formidable challenges unfortunately still exist, not the least of which is adequate access to the services and opportunities they require to enable them to enjoy the benefits of realizing their full potential. Providing full access to services and employment opportunities is crucial to ensuring that individuals can live and work in the community as equal citizens. Indeed, inability to enjoy these opportunities all too often leads to lifelong dependency, poverty and social exclusion.

Fuelled by the profound conviction that people with physical and intellectual disabilities are entitled to the same fundamental rights and possibilities as anyone else to live their lives to the fullest, for over 35 years, Key Industries (Key) has been dedicated to helping these individuals thrive in their community as equal citizens. Through its various educational, training and skills development programs, Key is proud to have made a genuine difference in the lives of so many of the clients it has served over the years.

Each year, Key Industries attempts to accommodate more clients and hire more counsellors in our quest to nurture clients' goals and dreams. Clients benefit from a wealth of facilities including a computer room complimenting the work skills program, a library accentuating the education program, and diverse exercise facilities & equipment promoting better health and fitness. Clients enjoy the use of a Snoezelen Room, offering a multi-sensory environment used for relaxation, stimulation and communication. The large commercial kitchen accommodates all clients simultaneously at mealtime, and is a valuable training ground for individuals in need of developing cooking skills or those interested in learning about how to operate a simple catering enterprise.
